Ft. Rinne Amagi Ensemble Stars!!
This cannot be happening.
Tired brown eyes stared back at her from the mirror as she blinked rapidly at her reflection, the noticeable bags sending her mind into a frenzy. Sure, she had been busy, but she didn’t think that the lack of sleep would become noticeable! Would other people notice too? No. No, she wouldn’t let them. She would go to class, and act normal, because everything was fine.
Everything was fine.

“Do you have something you want to say?”
Her words were slightly biting, yet he didn’t flinch, his brow furrowed slightly as his blue eyes took her in.
“Something bothering you?”
She tilted her head, a practiced bright smile gracing her features as she blinked innocently at him.
“No, why do you ask?”
“You haven’t been sleeping.” A statement, not a question. Her smile wavered slightly, before her resolve strengthened, her gaze turning away from him as she packed up her things, preparing to go to her next class.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m fine.”
He didn’t respond, merely letting out a chuckle as he watched her retreating figure.
You’re not fine.

Her smile dropped as she entered her room, finally out of sight of the general public. She rubbed her eyes as she turned on the lights, her blood freezing in her veins as she looked around the room.
Where did all my energy drin-?!
“Looking for something?”
The familiar and playful voice prompted her to spin around, a smirk greeting her as he wrapped an arm around her waist, holding her steady after the sudden movement.
“Let go of me.”
“Sure, sure.”
He let out a laugh, only showing his concern in the way he hesitated to remove his arm until he was sure that she was stable on her feet.
“Give them back, Rinne.”
Rinne hummed thoughtfully, his eyes closing into crescents as he placed his hands on his lips, letting out yet another laugh.
“Not until you get some rest.”
“I told you, I’m fine. I don’t need rest!”
He ruffled her hair as he swept into her room, causing her to glare at him as smoothed herself out. She watched as he sat down in the extra chair by her desk, his posture so confident that one might have mistaken it as his room, rather than hers.
“What are you doing?”
“Let’s make a bet.”
Shichi rolled her eyes, sitting down at her desk with the slightest huff as she flashed him a smile, her hands deftly laying out her work.
“A bet?”
“If you can make it to the end of the day, without your energy drinks, I’ll give them all back. I’ll even admit that I was wrong.”
His grin widened as she nodded in agreement after a brief moment of hesitation, her warm hand slipping into his as they shook on it. They settled down to do their work, falling into a comfortable silence that only came after years of knowing someone. Things were peaceful… until he noticed the way her head had started to droop down.
“Falling asleep?”
Rinne’s playful voice snapped her head up, her gaze narrowed as she frowned at him, giving him a quick shake of her head.
“No! You’re just… imagining… things…”
“Alright, that’s enough.”
He ignored her weak protests as he scooped her up into his arms, easily carrying her princess style to the bed as her struggles died down, the warmth of his embrace soothing her. She let out a quiet sigh as she relaxed.
“Ok, fine. You win. I’ll rest for five minutes, only five…”
“Right, only five.”
He laid her into the bed, tucking her in as he laughed affectionately, his fingers brushing the hair out of her face as he looked down at her with a soft smile.
“Goodnight, Shichi.”
