An Angelic Love

OCxCanon

OC: Verity Azelf

Canon: Makoto Yuuki (Enstars)

“Makoto? Makoto!”He shifted slightly, green gaze opening to find himself looking into familiar blue hues, filled with distress as his vision blurred.

“Verity?”

Confusion shifted through the haze of his mind, wondering if he was dreaming. She looked like the Verity he knew, her light brown hair falling over her shoulders and her clear blue eyes looking down at him in concern.

And yet.

Yet, she was fully clothed in white, a flowy dress that pooled around them on the ground. A glowing ring of light hovered above her head, accentuating her features and drawing his attention to the white feathers of her wings that enveloped them into their own world.

“Verity. Where are we?”

Things slowly came into focus as he shifted slightly. They were surrounded by a deep azure, and what he had assumed was the ground seemed to be clouds that held them aloft in the sky. Her wings moved with each breath, her slender fingers brushing against his cheeks.

“In your dream, Makoto.”

“...What do you mean?”

Her hands fell away as he sat up, readjusting his glasses so that he could look at her properly. She bit her lip, her hair shifting slightly to reveal small wings that decorated the sides of her head. Verity took his hands in hers, her shoulders drooping in resignation.

“Makoto. What do you remember?

He frowned slightly, his thumbs running over her knuckles in an attempt to calm her down as his mind whirled. His brow furrowed in confusion as a torrent of images flashed through his mind.

“I… I was on the way to the hospital, right?”

She nodded slowly, her gaze fixed on him, filled with more pain than he had ever seen.

“Why do you look so distressed?”

“How can you ask that right now?”

Her voice was strained as she looked down at their entwined fingers, her wings moving to pull him closer to her.

“Why? Why didn’t you tell me how bad it was?”

“I- I didn’t want you to worry.”

“So you were just going to leave without saying a word?”

Her tears spilled in earnest as his arms moved to embrace her, desperately wishing to comfort her. He rubbed her back silently, once more reminded of her appearance.

“Verity, is this dream real?”

His fingers flit over the features of her wings, the softness enthralling him. She sniffled as she rested her head on his shoulder, hugging him tightly as she responded.

“Yes. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you anything. We- We’re not supposed to reveal our true identities.”

“Then why are you showing me now?”

Verity drew away from him, pain and regret shimmering in her depths as more tears spilled down her cheeks.

“Because… I’m supposed to take you to the afterlife.”

Her words seemed to stop time, his breath catching as he took in the way she looked at him. Love and pain mingled in her gaze as he pressed a tender kiss to her forehead. Pain twisted in his own chest as he tucked some of her behind her ear, his hand holding the back of her head as he kissed her lovingly.

“I love you, Verity.”

“...This isn’t fair. You’re still so young, you should’ve had a much longer life, you should’ve gotten to do so much more, you should have-!”

She took in a shaky breath as he pressed his forehead against hers, his lips curved into a slight smile, his quiet whisper reaching her ears.

“It’s ok. It’s ok.”

“How can you say that?”

“I had a happy life.”

“But-”

He cut her off as he swiped a thumb over her lips, his hands cupping her cheeks as he met her teary gaze with a smile, his own emerald gaze swimming with unshed tears.

“The only regret I have…”

Her hands rested over his as a faint glow enveloped him, desperately trying to hold on to him for as long as she could.

“-is not being able to show you how much I love you.”

“You showed me more than enough.”

He let out a quiet chuckle, his lips brushing over hers as his body started to fade out of sight.

“Even if I loved you to the last breath of every life I live, it wouldn’t be enough. I love you, Verity Azelf.”

“Makoto…”

Her eyes burned with determination even as tears continued to fall, committing his image to memory as she finally let go. Her hands fell limply to her sides as he shimmered out of view, her gaze fixed on the spot he had been in.

“I’ll wait for you… As long as it takes…”

✧✧✧

Her fawn locks fluttered in the wind as she looked down towards the earth, memories of his sparkling green eyes flashing through her mind once more.

“Are you still waiting for him?”

She looked over her shoulder to find the one who ruled all standing behind her, prompting her to straighten up with a respectful dip of her head.

“I promised myself I would wait as long as it took.”

“Why are you doing this to yourself?”

There was no judgment, no accusation, just the simple question that hung in the air around them. Almost as if she was being tested.

“Why does anyone do anything?”

She turned away, her blue eyes still shining with the determination it had all those years ago.

“Love makes the world go round, and thus, love is all I need to wait for him.”

She waited for a response, and yet there was nothing but silence. Confused, she turned around, her mouth opening to form a question only to have electrifying shock freeze her in place. Emerald greens sparkled at her as he stepped towards her, white robes flowing behind him as he gave her his ever familiar smile. Without hesitation, she ran towards him, tears filling her eyes as threw herself into his arms.

“Makoto, is this real?”

Her fingers brushed over his wings, the feeling strengthening her hope as he hugged her tightly.

“Yes. I’m sorry for making you wait so long.”

She smiled brightly at him, leaning into his touch as he brushed away her tears.

“I love you, Makoto Yuuki.”

She tugged him down to kiss him passionately, her wings moving to encase them in their own world once more.

“And now, I have all of eternity to show you how much.”
